A '70s revival

Douglas Carswell's post asked whether we were heading for a "Pim Fortuyn moment". Well, I'm not sure about that, but one thing is certain; in Britain now it feels more and more like the 1970s.

Then, of course, it was about economics. Cometh the moment, cameth the woman. In 2008, it is about culture. It is about the effects of mass immigration, the virtual collapse of society in many areas and the disintegration of a common nationhood.

Extraordinary though it may seem, the Westminster village still hasn't got it.
